A-Ma Temple (Ma Kok Miu)

The name Macau was thought to be derived from the name of the temple. It is said that when the Portuguese sailors landed at the coast just outside the temple and asked the name of the place, the natives replied Maa-gok or A-maa-gok (lit. "The Pavilion of the Mother"). The Portuguese then named the peninsula "Macau".[1] The temple was well described in ancient Chinese texts, as well as represented in paintings, related to Macao. It is also one of the first scenes photographed in Macao.

Very pleasant journey accompanied by local tour guide Mr. Manuel Hu, for those who want to ‘look deep into the city’s soul’ rather than patterned style of thing, this trip definitely one of the best choices for you, We are a couples from mainland China and we started the trip at the second day after arriving Macau, Mr. Hu is a professional and friendly person, who brought us across the city by driving agency’s MPV, he helped us as much as he can and brought us to those most fascinating locations for history lovers and those locations definitely can’t be find in a common commercial trip, we had a very pleasant time for both Mr.Hu and I are history enthusiasts, we talked a lot about the history and local life of the Macanese and at the end of our journey he made various suggestions for best local food and souvenir options we can have, and brought us to the entrance of a local restaurant, which is one of his favorite, for some cantonese and south eastern Asia food; we are very appreciated for the tour Mr. Hu and his agency offered, and also hope this comment could be information for those who are wishing for an unforgettable trip in Macau.

The BEST way to see the sights of Macau

This tour was the highlight of our trip to Macau. Our tour guide Manuel had in depth knowledge of the history of Macau and wherever we went I could see other visitors listening to his passionate and informed commentary to us. He was also incredibly kind to our family and happily tailored the private tour to make it fun and interesting for our teenage children. He also included many special ‘surprise’ destinations we had not even heard about. The advantage of this smaller tour is that you can get to places that big buses cannot reach due to the narrow streets of Macau. We were dropped right in front of every attraction and wasted no time walking, so we could see more of Macau in a shorter time. The communication via WhatsApp was excellent and the on-line payment was very efficient. I could not fault anything about the tour and would recommend it to other travellers as the ONLY way to see Macau.

I had the privilege to be guided by the founder himself, Mr.Manuel on our private day tour around Macau. He was so humble and took extra care to ensure both my parents, who are senior citizen felt very comfortable throughout the tour. I learned so much about Macau on its history and geography from Mr.Manuel. His MPV was very new, clean and comfortable. We manage to see most of the famous sightseeing in Macau and also savour the original Portuguese Egg Tart. I highly recommend Macau Explorer Cultural Tour for anyone who wish to visit Macau.
